The Ridgeway College class of 2014 in Louis Trichardt has once again produced a fabulous set of AS exam results that were released on 21 January from Cambridge University.
Their top achievers were Taariq Tayob, with six distinctions in Afrikaans, biology, computing, English, mathematics and physical science respectively, and Xongile Nghatsane also with six distinctions in accounting, biology, computing, history, mathematics and physical science respectively. Taariq has been accepted at the University of Stellenbosch to study a BSc in biotechnology, and Xongile has been accepted to study engineering in gaming and design at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Students receiving four distinctions were Khamini Dhanjee (accounting, mathematics, English and physical science), Nishal Kalan (biology, computing, mathematics and physical science) and Safiyya Abdul Karim (biology, English, mathematics and physical science).
Receiving three distinctions were Chandni Abhaikumar Desai (accounting, biology and physical science), Mutondi Rankhododo (biology, English and mathematics) and Kulani Vhukeya (biology, mathematics and geography).
Three of their students were accepted into the University of Witwatersrand`s medical school. “This is an achievement that must be celebrated at the college, because it is very rare that more than two students per school get accepted into medical school at the University of the Witwatersrand,” said the college. Several of their students have also received university exemptions and diploma acceptance to study a wide range of courses across different universities in South Africa.
Ridgeway’s Form 3 students also performed exceptionally well in the IGCSE Cambridge examss, with 20 students receiving A*s and a total of 58 receiving As respectively. Their top student was Ismaeel Ayob, who received A*s in accounting, biology, English, mathematics and physical Science, and scored As in Afrikaans and business studies.
The following breakdown reflects the percentage distinctions or higher achieved in the respective subjects offered at the College: accounting 58%, biology 44%, physical science 43%, mathematics 31%, business studies 30%, English 26%, geography 21% and history and Afrikaans 10%.

The Rivoni School for the Blind in in Njakanjaka village in the Vhembe District has 167 learners from Grade R to Grade 12. The school was started in 2016 by the Rivoni Society for the Blind, founded in June 1975 at Elim Hospital by late Swiss doctor Erwin Sutter. The society later transferred responsibility for the school to the Department of Education.
