Worship House are confident that they will bring back the Best Contemporary Gospel Album award at the SAMA awards to be held in Sun City on 15 - 16 April.

SHAYANDIMA – For the first time in history, a local gospel music group was nominated for the prestigious South African Music Awards (SAMA), which will be staged at the Sun City Superbowl next week (15 – 16 April.
Worship House, an emerging gospel group attached to the Christ Worship House, based in Shayandima, near Thohoyandou, was nominated for the Best Contemporary Gospel Album category for their debut album Worship House, Live 2004. They are going to compete with other four nominees, Joyous Celebration (Joyous 8), Benjamin Dube (Bless our God), Matt Allison (Tunes to fall awake to) and Tree 63 (The Answer to the question).
The exciting news of Worship House’s nomination was announced at the capacity filled Club Kilimanjaro at Melrose Arch, Gauteng, on 15 March. The South African Music Awards is in its eleventh year and it is sponsored by MTN.
The band manager of Worship House, Norman Nemethaga, is confident that they are going to scoop the award and make their mark in the national music fraternity.
He crossed his fingers: “Although some people may regard us as rookies in the music industry, we are obviously going to sur-prise the so-called big guns by scooping the award. We believe in ourselves and we know that our nomination is proof that we are accomplishing our mission of becoming one of the best gospel music groups in the country.”
Nemathaga also thanked all the people who made the band what it is today. “Our nomination did not come as a surprise because it is a reward for our hard work. It is very important to thank our fans for their unending support. We will never forget to thank our mentor, Pastor Sakkie Dagada, for his significant contribution in the development of the band…”
Worship House, Live 2004, was recorded live at the Thohoyandou Town Hall on 26 September 2004. Administered by Universal Music, the album is presently making waves in the national gospel music charts. It has been received with huge excitement in the country and its nomination to the SAMA is a true reflection of its powerful performance in the South African music market. The album is presently available on cassettes, CD and video. Its DVD, which was still being mixed and manufactured in France at the time of going to press, will be available shortly.
The 12-track album boasts hit songs like Love came down, Wo ngalangala, Nangwe ndo dzula, Trading my sorrows, Ke a mo rata Yesu and the bonus track, Phanda na Phalaphala. It was produced by Pastor Sakkie Dagada and engineered by Gavan Khart. The Christ Worship band played all the live instruments whereas Lufuno Mathoma and Simba Mapfumo did the final rhythm arrangements. The band continues to gather momentum as it was featured on SABC 2 TV show, Gospel Time, hosted by Rebecca Malope on Sunday at 19:00.
