Sundani business veteran passes away

News - Date: 04 March 2016

A legend in the business fraternity in the Vhembe area, Mr Titus Mathukha (91) of Sundani, died on Saturday after a short illness.

According to friends and family members, the legendary Mathukha will go down in the business history books as a true example of what hard work is all about. Starting from scratch with no capital at all in the 1960s, Mathukha worked hard until he established himself as one of the leading businessmen in the Vhembe area.

Mathukha started his small business by selling fruit in the townships, often using his bicycle to transport his goods in and around his home village, Dzimaulu.

Mathukha later engaged more of his family members to help him and the business grew much bigger. Despite his advanced age, his businesses were still prospering because his dedicated children were helping him to run them.

One of his children, Mr Nkhumiseni Mathukha, said the family had suffered a great loss. “Our father has taught us to work hard and we will pick up the spear where he left off. However, we put everything in God’s hands because He knows why it happens this way. We will miss him, but we have to accept what we do not have the power to change things.”

Mt Mathuka is survived by his two wives and their children. He will be buried at Dzimauli on Saturday. The service will start at 06:00.
