MAKHADO – The 32-year-old Shayandima-based Khwevha Commercial School made history, when they invited a Std 5 dropout to motivate their Grade 12 learners at their year-end function and matric dance held at the Ben Lavin Nature Reserve during the weekend.
The school principal, Mr Livhuwani Phophi, said Skhumbuzo Munyai, the number one fan of Black Leopards, was an ideal candidate for his school because he displayed perseverance, persistence, hard work and determination, although he did not finish his primary school education. “The man is a true reflection of what dedication is all about. Apart from that, Skhumbuzo is a role model and our learners haveonly seen him on TV. With his little education, he also heads the Promotions Department at Thohoyandou Spar which shows that he strives for success despite hardships.”
Skhumbuzo ascended the stage in his usual Black Leopards skirt, bra and wig, which made him the darling of the fans in the soccer matches. “I did not get a chance to go to school but I managed to make myself what I am today. I encourage you to take education seriously because time is still on your side. When I dropped out of school, I worked at the tea plantations, building contractors and on farms. I told myself that I need to work hard to make my life better because I am the master of my own destiny. As a soccer lover, I came up with creative ideas that made me the number one fan of Black Leopards. The management of Spar spotted me at the soccer matches and roped me into their promotions department. You can also be what you want to be as long as you are a hard worker and have the determination to succeed. I have vowed that I want to be a well-known figure in the country although I did not get a chance to study for a university degree. I expect you to be to be in tertiary institutions next year to study so that you become educated and get better jobs…”
Skhumbuzo left everyone crying for more as he performed his Tshikete dance which made him famous on the soccer field. The main function at which Skhumbuzo addressed the 131 learners took place on Friday night and learners had a chance for game viewing before they left on Saturday.
