"Live an examplary life," says bishop Moila

News - Date: 22 September 2006

“It is expected of you as Christians to live an examplary life in society so that people around you can see you as their role models,” said Bishop MP Moila of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa. He was a guest speaker during the official opening of the Matavha congregation, which was held at Tshakhuma on Sunday.

He appealed to the followers of Christ to demonstrate their Christianity by caring for the poor, HIV and Aids orphans and the orphans of ritual murder victims in their respective communities. Bishop Moila said that most servants of God lose respect from the people around them due to the love of money.

The chairperson for the Matavha congregation church board, Mr MP Mukhithi, read the history of the congregation during the ceremony. He said the congregation was established in 1984. He added that the congregants used the local Matavha Primary School building for their church service between 1984 and 1998.

Mr Mukhithi further indicated that the erection of the church building started in 1998. Although the church structure was still far from complete, the congregants moved from Matavha Primary School to the new premises at the beginning of 1999.

He further revealed that the congregation had 50 registered members at the time of its establishment. The membership has increased dramatically as there are more than 110 members today. About R200 000 was used in the erection of the church building.

Some of the pastors who led the congregation in the past include NP Phaswana, MP Mabushe, S Khorommbi, MZ Netshidavhini, SS Sihlangu and A Mathoni. The congregation is now under the leadership of pastor BP Ramothwala.
