Health Centre to open at Vleifontein

News - Date: 13 October 2006

In an effort to bring health services close to the people, Dr Ramavhanda will officially open his modern health centre at the township of Vleifontein under the Makhado Municipality very soon.

When Dr Ramavhanda discovered that people from Vleifontein and the surrounding villages were travelling long distances to receive health services at Makhado and Polokwane, he developed the idea of building his own health centre with the view of bringing health services to the people.

At the modern health centre, there will be a waiting room and a small intensive care unit with three beds. To maintain and give absolute confidentiality to female patients, Ramavhanda said that, apart from the general patients’ consultation room, there would be a special consultation room for women. He said that the services of a physiotherapist, clinical psychologist, optometrist and dentist will always be available when the centre starts to operate. Ramavhanda said that other specialists will be available at specific times.

“This is the first health centre to accommodate different health practitioners in one place in the history of the Makhado Municipality. Because we will be operating on the door step of our communities; we are not going to close on any day. We are promising them quality health service,” said Ramavhanda.

Construction at the health centre is at the final stage, but the interior and exterior of the building look beautiful and clean. At the reception, there is a statue of Ramavhanda. “I hope and believe that the centre will be beneficial to residents of Vleifontein and the surrounding villages. Because we are willing to grow, we will be part of the community in terms of involving and participating in all community developmental projects,” he said.

The mayor of the Makhado Municipality, Cllr Glory Tsakani Mashaba, traditional leaders and other representatives of community stakeholders are expected to attend the official opening of Tshedza health centre. Ramavhanda said that people will be entertained by Khakhathi and Friends, Rapson Mbilu Rambuwani, local jazz groups and various indigenous dances. Dr Ramavhanda is still operating from an old building structure at Vleifontein.
