The residents of Hamakuya-Tshikalini were like confused sheep without a shepherd after the death of their beloved traditional leader, William Tshimangadzo Neluvhola, in 2004. But history was re-written on Friday when the energetic Nkhangweleni Patrick Neluvhola officially stepped into the boots of his late father.
The function to coronate him took place at a well-attended ceremony held at the village’s royal palace.
When installing the new headman, Thovhele Ntsweteni Makuya said a new chapter in the village leadership has been opened. He said the father of the new headman was a hardworking man who strived for the development of his village.
He also urged the new headman to follow in his father’s footsteps because there is still much to be done in the development of Tshikalini village. "I hereby officially announce that Nkhangweleni is your new traditional leader. Whoever disobeys him will indicate that he also does not respect me who put the new headman in power. His new traditional leadership name is Ntevheleni. I urge you to give him complete respect as you did to his father," said Thovhele Makuya during the function.
Thovhele Makuya advised the new traditional leadership to work hand in hand with different stakeholders for the development of his society. He further told the new headman: "We are installing you during a time of transformation and you have to join the train and never agree to be left behind. Attend different meetings with the municipality, traditional leadership organizations and other community structures, so that you keep your community up-to-date. Never disobey the royal council because it is the only pillar of your strength."
The Ndumi of the new headman is Bethuel Mmbangiseni Neluvhola and the Khadzi is Nnyambeni Neluvhola.
Among the hundreds of guests were the mayor of Mutale Municipality, Cllr Lucas Manyuha, and Mr Gerson Mahada, the acting district manager, Vhembe Support Centre, Office of the Premier.
