A hardworking traditional leader, Thovhele Gole Mphaphuli of the Mphaphuli Kingdom, says there is nothing more important than acquiring education and knowledge so that the community can cope with today’s changing world.
He was addressing hundreds of his subjects and junior traditional leaders at Gokolo Village, outside Sibasa, on Saturday. Thovhele Mphaphuli was on a fact-finding mission and the visit was also meant to strengthen his relationship with his traditional leaders and the community.
More than ten villagers who played prominent roles in the development of Gokolo Village were also issued with special certificates, during the function. Thovhele Mphaphuli praised the Gokolo community for their unity in community development. "I am very proud of you because you are a true example of what hard work and dedication is all about. I also understand that you only have water taps in the main street but I believe that there will be a time when every household will be able to access water. Some of you have electricity but our goal is for every one of you to have lights in their homes. I am deeply hurt by the fact that the village does not have a primary school because it creates a burden for your kids when they travel to other villages to acquire education. I will work hand in hand with the village leadership so that all these obstacles are overcome."
About the low rate of crime in Gokolo Village, Thovhele Mphaphuli said: "I have never heard from the radio or read from the newspapers that there has been any major crime reported here. This makes me proud and I walk tall because I know that my subjects are doing the right thing by not involving themselves in crime." He wrapped up his speech by urging the community to come together in the war against HIV/Aids, thereby encouraging the youth to take education seriously.
Gokolo Village traditional leader Headman Lutanyani Wilson Mahalihali said he was very pleased to have hosted His Majesty in his village. "It is history in the making because we know that Thovhele Gole Mphaphuli has a very busy schedule. We are very happy to be with him today."
