Will Cape Town Spurs pay for VFC’s defeat?

Sport  Date: 30 August 2024

After suffering a 0-2 defeat to Milford FC in their opening Motsepe Foundation Championship League match at Thohoyandou Stadium last Saturday, Venda Football Club (VFC) are now on their way to Cape Town, where they will face Cape Town Spurs at Athlone Stadium on Friday evening.

VFC head coach Duncan Lechesa is optimistic that his team will return to Thohoyandou with maximum points. He mentioned that they have been focusing on improving the strikers' target shooting throughout the week to prevent a repeat of last Saturday's disappointing result.

Cape Town Spurs were relegated from the Betway Premiership Division at the end of last season after finishing at the bottom of the log. The team from the Mother City managed to collect a point in their first league match, a goalless draw against University of Pretoria FC at the Absa Tuks Stadium in Pretoria last Sunday.

Cape Town Spurs will need to contain Thabelo Tshikweta, Matimu Tshabalala, and Kgothatso Mariba, or they risk conceding several goals.

Another match scheduled for Friday will see Casric Stars take on Hungry Lions at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium in Siyabuswa, Mpumalanga. Black Leopards will host Leruma United in one of five matches scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

Durban City, formerly known as Maritzburg United, will travel to Nelspruit in Mpumalanga to face Kruger United at Mbombela Stadium. Other fixtures include Orbit College FC vs Hungry Lions, Milford FC vs JDR Stars, Upington City vs Baroka FC, and Pretoria Callies vs University of Pretoria.
