Pfano is making name for himself as newsreader

Pfano Mufamadi, known as “Master P”, is growing in popularity as a newsreader at Makhado FM. The dynamic young man was born in Mashau Madzhiga and started his education at Mariadze Primary. He completed his Grade 12 at Khwara Secondary before enrolling at the University of Venda, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in media studies.

He was given his first opportunity as a newsreader and journalist in 2019 at Hlanganani FM. He worked there until the radio station closed in 2022. After that, he kept himself busy with other jobs until Makhado FM took him in as a newsreader in October last year.

Mufamadi says he has found a new home at the radio station and within the communities in the station’s radius. “If you love something a lot and it has become a way of life, you’ll leave everything else. For me, it’s radio. I came from Mashau and found a new home in the Makhado area.”

Mufamadi believes that radio is evolving. “How funny you are is no longer as important as the need to educate and inform gradually supersedes the need to entertain. Everything you say on air is analysed and used to measure your intellectual capacity. The biggest challenge for media personalities is social media and its double-edged nature. What you put up on those spaces might be used against you tomorrow or a decade later.”

He encouraged all those interested in breaking into the media to study and acquire a tertiary qualification in the field. “You need to be a people’s person and must be able to communicate your thoughts, ideas, and information clearly and concisely, both in writing and orally. Follow those who are already in the industry and do research to learn more,” he said.

Kaizer Nengovhela

Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality. Kaizer was awarded the Mathatha Tsedu award in 2014.
