'Drawing is like breathing to me'

A Grade 9 learner at Nwaridi High, Orifha Mufamadi from Ha-Mashau, has shown a remarkable talent for art, which is evident in his splendid drawings.

Orifha's passion for art is profound, and he aspires to establish himself in the art industry. To him, a drawing transcends the mere representation of an object; it serves as a medium for expressing his deep inner feelings that words cannot convey.

“Drawing is more like breathing to me. I can’t live without it,” he said. Initially drawing cars, Orifha later discovered a fondness for drawing people. “It’s really amazing to see yourself drawn on paper. I didn’t focus much on drawing because education is important. I used to draw during my free time,” he shared.

His passion for art was ignited during his primary school years when his teachers recognised his talent and encouraged him to pursue it further. “I am inspired by life and the beauty of different faces, and that is why I specialise in portraits. Capturing emotions with pencil on paper is what I enjoy the most,” he explained. Orifha utilises coloured pencils and acrylic paint in his works.

His ultimate dream is to have his own art gallery, where people can appreciate his work and where he can mentor young talent. “I want people to come and see my work and help young people to use their talent. In the future, I want to use paint to express myself,” he said.
