Three boys in jail after man is stabbed at tavern

Three boys from the Magau area appeared in court last week on murder charges after they had allegedly stabbed a 62-year-old man to death, following an argument at a tavern.

David Ndouvhada Sikhutshi (62) was allegedly stabbed in full view of revellers at a tavern in Magau in the early morning hours of 14 April. Sikhutshi was transported to Louis Trichardt, where he died on Monday, 15 April.

The deceased man’s sister, Ms Mutshinya Ndouvhada, said that from what they could find out, he was attacked and stabbed several times by a group of boys. She added that her brother’s death had left the family with deep emotional scars. “We want to see severe punishment. The accused must pay for what they have done. They must rot in jail where they belong,” she said. “Why did they have to kill him? He could have just been reprimanded if he wronged them. We need answers, and we hope they will give those answers in court,” she added.

The spokesperson for the police, Brig Hlulani Mashaba, said that the police were still unsure of the reason for the fight. “The deceased and a group of boys were reportedly arguing. Three of the suspects allegedly stabbed the deceased several times around the body and head with a sharp object,” Mashaba said. Community members provided the police with information, which led to the arrest of the boys, who appeared in the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court on a murder charge on 16 April. The case was postponed to 25 April for a bail application.

Sikhutshi was buried on Saturday, 20 April, at Magau.
