News in brief - Date: 22 June 2024

Well-known Pastor Phineus Malima, former principal of Gogobole Primary School, national secretary of the Lemba Cultural Association, member of the Gogobole Traditional Council, and chairperson of the Gogobole community structure, was honoured by the community for his significant contributions to development.

To express their appreciation, a farewell function was organised by some of Pastor Malima’s former students and community members who had been taught by him many years ago. The event took place at his residence in Gogobole on 15 June.

Mr Reuben Musefuwa, a prominent businessman who was also taught by Malima, said others should be inspired and motivated by Malima’s dedication and passion. Musefuwa explained that Malima would be remembered as someone who had played a crucial role in advancing education and community development. “He was a compassionate leader and dedicated servant. Pastor Malima always greeted every community member and student with a smile, and he consistently raised educational standards. His exceptional teaching skills ensured that he produced numerous professionals who have made significant contributions to society. It’s clear he loved his work and always went above and beyond to fulfil his responsibilities.”

In response, Malima expressed gratitude to the school’s governing body, the learners, and community stakeholders for their support throughout his 40-year tenure as a teacher at Gogobole Primary School. “There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing the doctors, chief magistrates, engineers, teachers, lawyers, and other professionals that I had the privilege to educate. I’ve put in a lot of effort, and now it’s time for me to rest,” he said.

Malima advised fellow educators that their work should not merely be about financial gain but about positively impacting others. “When you enter the classroom, be fully prepared and committed. To find joy in your work, you must love what you do and diligently fulfil all your duties,” he said.
