The official launch of Phase 2 of the Vondo Regional Water Scheme was welcomed by traditional leaders and community stakeholders. The R80 million project will supply water to villages such as Murangoni, Maranzhe, Tshikunda, and Matondoni.
“As traditional leaders, we are pleased to hear that our rural communities will once again have clean water from the taps,” said Thovhele Midiyavhathu Tshivhase. He also pledged that they would closely monitor the progress of the project to ensure that contractors meet deadlines.
During the launch on Thursday, 5 September, the executive mayor of the Vhembe District Municipality, Freda Nkondo, emphasised that the project would be a priority for her. “We must understand that access to clean water is a basic human right, and as leaders, we carry the mandate of those who elected us. We must fight for and strive towards proper service delivery,” she said.
Nkondo added that, once completed, the Vondo Water Scheme would provide clean water to various villages in Thulamela and surrounding areas.
