Iyarunga win Not Bribery tournament

Makhitha Iyarunga became the winners of the Not Bribery Soccer Tournament when they beat Magau United 4-2 at Maebane on Saturday.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw and Iyarunga became victorious after a penalty shoot-out.

The youthful United relied on their experienced strikers, Ritshidze Matodzi and Phumudzo Silika, for goals. They were, however, tightly marked. Silika beat the offside-trap in the 15th minute and unleashed a half volley. The ball went far wide, much to the fans’ disappointment.

That was a wake-up call to Iyarunga. They initiated several promising moves from behind, but the balls were all intercepted when they entered the opposition's danger area. United did not lose hope, even though it was difficult for them to find their way through the defence of Iyarunga.

United finally broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when Moses Mabeba scored from the edge of the box with a volley. Iyarunga introduced their vastly experienced defender, Boikano Mathatha, and sacrificed Mutshidzi Thoga in the 38th minute.

The wheel of fortune turned in favour of the Iyarunga in the 40th minute. Ronewa Sadiki equalized with a volley. Realizing that their strikers were showing no appetite for goals, Franse Lithole of Iyarunga then abandoned his position to assist the strikers.

United came close to scoring again in the 65th minute. Their right winger, Livhuwani Maduwa, received a neat pass from Charles Tshikumbana and ran towards the right corner, from where he dished a square pass. The pass was intercepted before the ball entered the penalty box.

Both sides played defensive football for the remaining part of the game.
