Another defeat for struggling Hotspurs

Joe Maweja beat the struggling Giyani Hotspurs 3-2 in a Safa ABC Motsepe Limpopo League played at the Louis Trichardt show grounds on Saturday.

Spurs took the game to their opponents from the first whistle. That resulted in Maweja's losing cohesion in the middle of the park. Maweja scored their opening goal in the 16thminute. Their killer-striker, Owen Thuto, received a beautiful pass from Thaba Lesiba and gave the keeper of Spurs no chance.

Maweja took long to recuperate. At that stage, Spurs were knocking on their door every minute. It was not surprising to see Spurs equalize in the 37th minute. Rhulani Mkhari unleashed a half volley from the edge of the box. The keeper of Maweja, Thakhani Mashao, watched helplessly as the ball landed at the back of the net.

In the second half, Spurs were chasing the action from the first whistle. The visitors from Giyani made their defenders work overtime by making silly mistakes in the centre of the pitch.

Maweja brought on Mpho Mavhandu for Chester Murwanthi for Tshilisanani Munyai and Lufuno Tshidada in the 54th minute. Mpho Mavhandu scored the second goal of his team after  a scramble within the penalty area.

In the 60th minute, Endlani Chabalala of Spurs was booked after he had tackled Percy Thuto Ntseleng from behind. Spurs equalized in the 76th minute when Lyborn Maluleke hooked in a loose ball after a scramble within the box.

The last 10 minutes saw Maweja pushing hard in their search for goals. Realizing that Maweja were firing on all cylinders, Spurs started to cool down the ball. Their defence was solid enough to keep the attacks of Maweja out of the net.

The much-awaited winning goal for Maweja came in the 86th minute. Mpho Mavhandu completed his brace and scored after he had finished off a square pass from Mutshidzi Ndou.
