Can Leopards beat Chiefs this time?

After meeting in their Telkom KO Competition match at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg two weeks ago, Black Leopards are gearing up for another tough clash against Kaizer Chiefs at the same venue next Wednesday, 7 November.

This time around they will be fighting for league points. Their Telkom KO Competition match ended with a 5-3 victory for Chiefs. The winner was determined through penalty shoot-out, as the score was 1-1 at the end of the regulation time.

If the Leopards’ performance in their Telkom match is anything to go by, Chiefs will have to double their effort to collect the maximum points for the match. Chiefs are still battling to come to terms with last weekend’s result in the Soweto Derby. The Buccaneers beat Chiefs 2-1 in front of more than 87 000 cheering fans at the FNB Stadium.

On the other hand, Leopards must win the match to move out of the relegation zone. Lidoda Duvha are currently in the fifth position from the bottom of the log with nine points, two above the second-last side, Baroka FC.

Leopards’ bulldozer striker, Mwape Musonda, will watch the game from the grandstand. According to the team’s assistant coach, Mr Morgan Shivambu, Musonda is still recovering from the injury he sustained in their game against Kaizer Chiefs two weeks ago. The likes of Joseph Mhlongo, Karabo Tshepe, Ivan Mahangwahaya and Themba Ndlovu are expected to do the job in the absence of Musonda.

Chiefs’ strikers, Gustav Paez, Bernard Parker and the former Black Leopards’ playmaker, Siphelele Ntshangase, will cause havoc among the Leopards’ defence if they are not well contained.

After playing to a 1-1 draw with Black Leopards at the Thohoyandou Stadium last Sunday, Free State Stars will play against Mamelodi Sundowns at the Loftus Stadium in Pretoria. Polokwane City will host Orlando Pirates at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in the only match that will be played next Tuesday evening, 6 November.
