Black Leopards enhanced their chances for promotion when they beat Marumo Gallants 3-2 in their Motsepe Foundation Championship League match at Thohoyandou Stadium last Saturday. The victory means that Black Leopards have yet to lose a match at home under the guidance of Mr Peter Mponda and his assistant, Solly Luvhengo.

Lidoda duvha had won five matches and drawn one at home after the arrival of Mponda and Luvhengo. During an interview after Saturday’s match, Mr Luvhengo was singing the praises of his players. He mentioned that he was impressed by the team’s overall performance, despite their squandering numerous scoring chances.

He reckoned that his team could have scored at least three goals in the first half, had it not been for their strikers, who were not accurate at the goal finish. He said that he consoled himself with the fact that their creating numerous scoring chances was a clear indication that they had done everything right and that the only thing missing was luck.

Luvhengo further stated that they would be working on the strikers’ target shooting in their preparations for their next league match against NB La Masia, with whom they will fight for league points at Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg on Friday afternoon.

Luvhengo’s counterpart from Marumo Gallants, Mr Pitso Dladla, did not respond when called for an interview. Instead, he walked straight to the team’s dressing room after the final whistle without looking back.

Marumo Gallants were reduced to 10 men 30 minutes into the game. Their striker, Saziso Magawana, was red-carded for faking an injury and continuing to argue with the referee.

Bonginkosi Makhanya, Makoro Moloko, and Bethuel Muzeu scored for Black Leopards, while the two goals for Gallants came via Mpambaniso Monde and Marvin Skhosana. Black Leopards are currently in the 10^th position on the log after the victory.
