Maunavhathu must beat Kruger United to stay in Motsepe race

Sport  Date: 17 October 2024

After a two-week break, it will be business as usual this weekend for teams affiliated with the Motsepe Foundation Championship League. One match is scheduled for Friday evening, with four set for Saturday afternoon and the remaining three on Sunday afternoon.

Venda Football Club (VFC) will host Kruger United at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday. VFC must secure maximum points to restore the team's lost pride and improve their chances of avoiding relegation at the end of the season. Currently, VFC, also known as Maunavhathu, sits at the bottom of the log.

Kruger United is also in a precarious position regarding relegation, sitting fourth from the bottom with five points.

This will be VFC's second match under the guidance of Mr Vladislav Heric, who took over from Mr Duncan Lechesa three weeks ago. Heric's debut match ended in a 0-1 defeat to Upington City at the Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium in Upington.

Recently, VFC strengthened their attacking force by signing former Maritzburg City striker Judas Moseamedi. If given the chance on Saturday, Moseamedi is expected to combine well with Matimu Tshabalala and Thabelo Tshikweta in the frontline. However, VFC's defenders Nhlanhla Makhubele, Zeblon Mtshweni, and Tshovelo Mathebula will face a tough challenge in containing United's strikers.
