Itani Mphaga, also called Venda Boy.

Venda Boy is back with second project

Entertainment  Date: 20 April 2020

His real name is Itani Mphaga, but his fans call him Venda Boy. He released his debut album, A thi na tsho, way back in 2012 and vanished from music circles for several years before resurfacing this year.

According to Mphaga, he did not rush to record his second project after realizing that A thi na tsho was still performing well in the market.

He mentioned that songs such as Angekho, From that corner, Ufhulufhela and Idani nothe had made his debut album an instant hit with fans. Asked about his history in music, Mphaga said that he started to play various musical instruments for his church band while he was still a pupil at the Silimale High School.

He joined the Pile-based gospel group, PGC Band, in 2007. At that stage, he was in Grade 11. Mphaga said that he had accompanied the PGC Band to record their debut album in 2010. Following his success with that Band, Mphaga felt that he had reached maturity in the music industry and that the time had come for him to go solo.

He tried his luck by recording A thi na tsho two years afterwards.  His new release, Sedza kha Murena, was recorded live at the Makonde Lutheran Church towards the end of last year. The album was officially launched during a ceremony at the Makonde Wealth of Revival International Church recently. Mphaga said that the demand for the new release was far higher than he could supply even though he was marketing it himself. Sedza kha Murena comprises eight songs.

The album is available on CD and DVD.

Asked about his life outside the music industry, the 31-year-old Mphaga said that he was a soccer player and a successful businessman. He revealed that some of the businesses he owns include a car wash and a takeaway outlet.

For live performances Mphaga can be phoned on 079 308 5286.
