Young Muneiwa (18) published his first book

A Grade 10 learner, Muneiwa Tshikororo (18), recently published his first Tshivenda novel, Ndayo dza Vhatendi.

Tshikororo, who was born at Tshidimbini, said that his love of writing started in 2017. “I used to write short stories and my friends were impressed with my ability. I then took it seriously until the birth of my first novel, Ndayo dza Vhatendi. I decided to write a novel because I have a lot of experience that I would like to share with the community, and I felt that I would not be able to express myself fully in a short story.”

Tshikororo has seen many people failing in life because they try so hard to please others and forget to work more on achieving their dreams. “The desire to please other people while neglecting your dreams is like a chronic disease that kills passion,” he said.

He explained that he was by no means using ancient language, but just pure Tshivenda. He believes that writers are the best equipped to keep a language alive by reviving it in their work. “I had noticed that our language is fading and getting swallowed by the frequent use of English in our day-to-day life,” he said.

“I decided to revive Tshivenda,” he said. He also encouraged other youths to utilize their talents to the benefit of their communities.

“It is important to use our skills while we are still young, because that could be the foundation of our future. Mine is an inborn talent, but my success is coupled with hard work, determination, and a positive attitude. I also want to prove the fact that success does not depend on whether one comes from a disadvantaged rural area like me, but it depends on one’s ability to use the available limited resources.”

Kaizer Nengovhela

Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality. Kaizer was awarded the Mathatha Tsedu award in 2014.
