Local pastor releases debut gospel album

A local pastor from the Sinthumule area released his own debut gospel album, entitled Rabayanda, which has already proven to be a favourite among local community members.

Collen Mufamadi, from the New Apostolic Church in Ramahantsha village, says the main message of the album is repentance, hope for Christians, grace, love, and the goodness of God.

The 12-track album consists of well-known songs sung by church members from the New Apostolic Church, or by artists who have already been in the music industry for a while. Mufamadi says he got his inspiration from the musicians whom he grew up listening to and fundamentally from the church.

He started his music career at Ramahantsha as a leading vocalist for the United Apostolic Church choir.  “I know that it is very difficult to make it in this industry, but I am happy that, through the support of my fans, I am moving closer to my destination.” He says that, as a follower of God, he was overwhelmed that he could praise Him (God) through music. “With God in my personal life, I don’t need artificial substances, such as drugs, to be happy.”

Mufamadi believes that the music industry is under a lot of strain today because of piracy. “There are no more music shops in town, because they cannot compete with these ruthless thieves who sell our music at next to nothing.”

His own album, however, is already doing well commercially, and tracks that are highlighted by critics include Rabayanda, Muya wanga, Goliada and Mbondo dza Jerico. He says it only shows that a lack of funds can never hinder strong-willed artists from embracing their dreams of becoming recorded artists.

“To say that I love music is an understatement,” Mufamadi says. “How can we even exist without music? Music encapsulates life, and life is encapsulated in music.”
