Another poetry book for Philip Netshishivhe

Following the success of his debut poetry book, mudzili, which was published in 2018, a resident of Tshidimbini village, Mr Ndivhuwo Philip Netshishivhe, has made a comeback with another book.

According to Netshishivhe, his writing skill started to develop way back in 1987. At that stage, he was a pupil at the Tshidimbini Secondary School. He said that he wrote numerous poems that won him cash prizes in the then Radio Venda poetry competition.

After passing Grade 12, Netshishivhe started to compile poems with the aim of publishing a collection one day. He revealed that he had met several people who had stolen his poems under false pretences, saying they would introduce him to publishers.

He started compiling poems for his first collection, mudzili, in 2014. After compiling 53 poems, Netshishivhe decided to approach a local printing company, Thina Printers and Distributors, in 2017. The book was published by Dzuvha Publishers towards the end of 2018.

He discovered that some of his work had been copied by other writers, who pretended that these works were their own. Netshishivhe said that at certain stages he felt like quitting writing, but some people, including Ms Takalani Patricia Mutele and his former principal at the Hector Peterson Primary School, Mr Alex Ramokhoase, had encouraged him not to give up.

Their inspiring words prompted him to start compiling new poems late last year. After compiling 50 poems, Netshishivhe approached Harrys Printers Publishers in Pretoria, asking them to assist with publishing the book. The new collection, mbuvha, was published two weeks ago. Some of the poems in the new collection include Matamela Ramaphosa, Covid-19 and HIV/Aids.

Netshishivhe, a teacher by profession, further said that his book would be available at most local bookshops in a few weeks’ time. For more information, Mr Netshishivhe can be phoned on 060-6026966.
