Rastafari to celebrate Grounation Month on Good Friday

The Department of Peace, a Vhembe-based Rastafarian movement, is converging at Ha-Maila village for the Grounation Month event on Good Friday, where they will be celebrating the gift of life in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This Rastafarian community movement, which promotes reggae music and the virtues of the Rastafari, will be focusing on peace, love, unity, and caring.

“Rastas are people who are united by love of one another, and as such we aim to spread this kind of love between fellow human beings to our communities here in Vhembe and beyond,” said the organisation’s representative, Empress Hulisani Mbedzi. “When we meet, we emphasise love and respect for one another as virtues from which we should not depart.”

“We want the Department of Peace to keep the spirit of Reggae music alive,” Hulisani said. “We will be joined by some of the best local artists performing on stage and singing the best of their music. We really appreciate their support, and we can’t thank them enough for their contribution.”

Some of the artists to look forward to include Lutendo Ceejay Munyai, Shufflers Ragimana, Jacky Nethomboni, Rasta Bathu, Ras Lion, Ras Angel, Ras Roto Ramatsekisa, Ras Rachy, Blacklion, Jah Blaster, Ras Wailer, Burning Fire, Asataluli Manngo, Rockstone and Changes, Crossby Thovhakale, Don, Majasi, Rooijah, Priest, Ras Mcdonald, Rasta Shai, and Ras Marley (MC).

Grounation Day is normally held on 21 April internationally and celebrated in honour of the visit of His Majesty, Haile Selassie, in 1966 to Jamaica. “We decided to switch the day; instead of celebrating on the 21st of April, we will be celebrating on Good Friday, reason being that everyone will be at home, so the day will cover everybody,” Hulisani said.

Roto Ramatsekisa will be hosting the celebration, which will be held at the Wisdom Channel near The Hill and Azwifarwi Supermarket and starts at 10:00 in the morning until late.

For more information on this event, contact Empress Hulisani Mbedzi on Tel 079 667 5764 or Ras Willy at 082 680 6676.
