Local actor receives national nomination

Martin Musetha, a talented local actor from Vleifontein, has just received a nomination by the Mzansi Arts and Media Awards (#MAMA2021) for Best Actor, and he hopes to bring this coveted award home soon.

Musetha acted in an array of movies such as Western Style, Vhatukanani, Jack the Kidnapper, Ro Tshinyani (Why us women?) and Ndeṅwa Ya Munna and has certainly proven himself in the entertainment industry over the years. Exposure to the big screen might just lead this talented actor to stardom.

“I am excited about the great news of my nomination. This is what I have been waiting for all along in my career as an actor,” he said. “The fact that I am nominated is a form of recognition. Yes, as artists we always look forward to a time when we will earn a living out of our work, but it is recognition like this from the MAMA Awards that makes us feel affirmed in the industry.”

The surprising thing about Musetha is that he started out as a singer. In 2016, he released a track titled Rofhambana, which was followed by a video shoot.

“One of my friends, Thapelo Tshisikawe, saw the video of the song and was excited to the extent that he linked me with the skilful film director Musiiwa Makumbi of MSW Group,” he said. “Makumbi cast me in a movie called Muḓinḓa wa Mudzimu, and he was bowled over by my portrayal of the lead role of Vho-Samuel Buḓeli, who was a pastor.”

From that point on, in every movie that Musetha acted, his roles were portrayed excellently and with conviction. Another good example is his role in Ndeṅwa Ya Munna, where he plays the role of Justice. The movie deals with crime, women and child abuse, false arrest, and bribery.

“Justice is this guy who is a problem everywhere. A serious crime is committed, and the wrong person is arrested. The whole idea of the movie was to show the unfairness of the justice system, but also the evil that a person can do to another one,” he said.

“Most of the movies I acted in are anti-villain movies,” he said. “My acting has an aspect of social responsibility in it. I am content to say that I am a good actor who strives to bring about change in society.”

Tshifhiwa Mukwevho

Tshifhiwa Given Mukwevho was born in 1984 in Madombidzha village, not far from Louis Trichardt in the Limpopo Province. After submitting articles for roughly a year for Limpopo Mirror's youth supplement, Makoya, he started writing for the main newspaper.
