Masiagwala decides to go solo

Traditional gospel music lovers, especially members of the United African Apostolic Church (UAAC), will recall Suzan Masiagwala as a talented lead vocalist who has been featured by various gospel music artists around Vhembe. The experience of being featured by these artists has built Masiagwala to become a self-reliant artist whose talent has matured with time. After years of musical collaborations and gaining musical experience, Masiagwala decided to go to the studio to record her six-track debut album titled Ndi dziphathutshedzo, and the fruit of her hard labour is paying off.

Masiagwala, who stays at Ha-Dumasi village near Thohoyandou, has now become the toast of music lovers as her album is received with acclaim by those who understand the basics of traditional gospel music.

She said that, at first, she was reluctant to release her own album because she felt she was not ready to stand on her own. “However, the pressure from my fans was so much that I could not take it any longer. I am happy that the move that I have taken has steered my music career to a higher level. This is a dream come true, and I thank the grace of God for guiding me towards the right direction.”

Masiagwala thanke her mentor and manager, Ndivhuwo Zacharia Munzhedzi of Munzhedzi and Tshamutilikwa UAAC Choir. “I sang with him for many years, and he encouraged me to believe in myself. Today, I am a celebrated artist because of his efforts. I am very proud to be associated with such a great motivator like him.”

The artist, who grew up in the United African Apostolic Church, has a special message to budding artists who want to venture into the music recording industry. “There is no need to rush when you want to realise your musical dream. Start by gaining experience from those who have been in the music industry before you. You will then be able to use the experience to build your individual music career.”

The six tracks on the album, which will appeal to lovers of gospel music, are Mudzimu wa vhorine, Haho a no nga Yesu, Ndi nnyi khonani, Murena, Arali ndi na iwe and the title track Ndi dziphathutshedzo.

Masiagwala says plans are at an advanced stage to have her music available at all online digital stores. For now, those who want her music can call Masiagwala on 076 082 9332 or contact her manager, Ndivhuwo Zacharia Munzhedzi, on 073 155 2315.
