Mafadza becomes listeners' darling

Hashanduki Mafadza has only been in the broadcasting industry for three months, yet she has already captured the hearts of Makhado FM’s listeners.

At just 21 years old, this newcomer’s path to success was paved with hard work and dedication long before her career in broadcasting took flight. Affectionately known as “Shandu” by her fans, Hashanduki hosts the morning drive show, “Weekend Connection,” on Saturdays from 03:00 to 06:00. She also graces the airwaves with the “Community Diary” show, running from 15:00 to 18:00.

Reflecting on her journey to Makhado FM, Hashanduki shares her dreams and aspirations. “I’ve had the dream of becoming a radio presenter since a very young age. When Makhado FM came into existence, I had a hunch that it could be a stepping stone towards realising my future dreams. My heart skipped a beat when I spotted an audition notice in July of this year. I knew it was the right place and the right time, and I wasted no time in pursuing this opportunity. Fortunately, everything fell into place, and here I am today.”

Hashanduki’s programmes are designed to be not only entertaining but also a platform for community engagement. “The key is to connect with your listeners on issues that matter to them. You must offer something unique that keeps your audience from changing the dial. My secret recipe for boosting our listenership is to provide exclusive local content that can’t be found anywhere else. Radio runs through my veins, and I can’t imagine doing anything else,” she declares.

For aspiring radio presenters, Hashanduki has an encouraging message: “We all start from humble beginnings, and perfection doesn’t happen overnight. The more time you spend in this industry, the more you refine your skills. Be open to learning and embracing your mistakes, so that you can improve yourself each day.”
