Although he only took his seat behind the mic for the first time five months ago, Uhone Mulaudzi is already becoming a household name on the airwaves.

Popularly known as “MJ,” the 24-year-old from Hamulima Tshitale joined the Tshakhuma community radio station on 17 July this year to co-present the “Zwavhudi Animal Feeds Afternoon Boss Drive” alongside co-presenters Kulani and Ace, which airs on weekdays from 15:00 to 18:00. He also hosted the station’s current affairs show, “Buco Sunrise and Sumbandila.”

On Friday (24^th), during the afternoon drive show, MJ bade farewell to the Tshakhuma listeners to join the crew at Radio Thohoyandou, where he now presents the “Mutsindo wa mafhelo a vhege” show from 07:00 to 09:00 on weekends.

For Uhone, working in the entertainment industry has always been a dream of his. Growing up, he used to imitate radio presenters and “Muvhango” and other Tshivenda telenovela actors. “I grew up watching too much TV and listening to the radio. When I was alone in my room, I would stand in front of the mirror and pretend to be Chief Azwinndini from ‘Muvhango.’ Sometimes I would present a radio show, like the legendary former Phalaphala FM presenter Jimmy Netshilulu, who is well-known as Jimmy the Scratcher. I always wanted to be a radio presenter, actor, master of ceremonies, or at least a motivational speaker, but I come from a very rural area where it is very difficult to become something or be anyone. I was surprised when I sent my CV to Tshakhuma Community Radio, and they called me to come and work with them,” he said.
