Mukhodeni Lidzhegu from Waterval is making a name for herself in fashion circles by combining beautiful style and sustainability with her stunning crochet designs. With a keen eye for design and a deep passion for the environment, the 22-year-old self-taught “crochetpreneur” has captured hearts and minds with her remarkable creations.

As a recent graduate in environmental science from the University of Venda (Univen), Mukhodeni aims to bring a unique perspective to her craft by creating sustainable and eco-friendly crochet products. Armed with a profound understanding of ecological principles, she has a deep appreciation for sustainability and the imperative of protecting our planet.

“I strive to incorporate environmentally friendly materials and production methods into my designs, and I am dedicated to promoting sustainable fashion practices. Overall, my education has equipped me with a strong understanding of environmental issues and a passion for sustainable design, which I bring to my work in crochet designs,” she said.

Mukhodeni’s journey into the world of crocheting began during the 2020 lockdown, when she honed her skills through digital platforms such as YouTube and established her own brand, called Khodi’s Knitwear. Along the way, she encountered challenges such as sourcing materials and balancing the business side of design, which ultimately made her stronger and more determined to succeed with the support of her parents, Rudzani and Norman Lidzhegu.

The range of items she creates is diverse, from swimwear and sweaters to stylish accessories such as hats and gloves. Influenced by local designer Katy Shidzinga, Mukhodeni has earned praise for her creativity and skill.

“I also offer custom designs for clients looking for something truly unique. Clients appreciate the attention to detail and craftsmanship that go into each piece,” she said.
