VFC and Marumo Gallants to clash

After a break of about two months, the teams affiliated with the Motsepe Foundation Championship will resume their league programme next week. Five matches will be played on Tuesday, 13 February, while the remaining three are scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

Venda Football Club (VFC) will resume their league activities with an away fixture. They will travel to Vanderbijlpark to play against Marumo Gallants at the Isak Steyl Stadium in one of the three matches scheduled for Wednesday. The fact that VFC and Gallants are in a similar situation is reason for fans to expect a thriller. Both teams are fighting for survival, with the Thohoyandou side languishing at the bottom of the log with 16 points, while Gallants are in the second-last position with the same number of points.

As part of their mission to solidify the squad, VFC have acquired the services of former Black Leopards striker Tiklas Thutlwa, from the DStv Premiership League side Sekhukhune United. Thutlwa’s employment contract with Lidoda Duvha expired at the end of last season.

According to the club’s chairman, Mr. Itani Munzhelele, Thutlwa will be playing in VFC’s colours until his loan contract with the club expires at the end of the current season. Should he be given a chance in their game against Gallants, Thutlwa is likely to form a good combination with the likes of Edmore Chirambadara and Moeketsi Sekola up front.

Munzhelele has also confirmed the signing of Maqoko Lulama, Siyabonga Nkosi, Bongolwethu Siyasi, and goalkeeper Rotshidzwa Muleka, apart from Thutlwa. Muleka is a well-known figure in local football circles, having played for Black Leopards and Baroka FC over the past years. Siyasi has played for VFC on a loan contract from Mamelodi Sundowns until the end of last season. Vhanzheli, as he is affectionately called, is optimistic that VFC will make significant strides with the new acquisitions.
