VFC must beat Hungry Lions to avoid looming relegation axe

Venda Football Club (VFC) must start collecting significant league points in their remaining fixtures if they are serious about escaping the relegation axe at the end of the season. Their next assignment will be to try and beat Hungry Lions FC when they meet in their Motsepe Foundation Championship League match at the Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium in Upington on Saturday.

This is the second away fixture for VFC in a row after they had played their midweek fixture against Marumo Gallants at the Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark. (The result of their midweek game was not available at the time of our going to press.) VFC were rooted at the bottom of the log with 16 points before this match.

To prove that their defenders are underperforming, VFC had conceded the greatest number of goals. VFC had recently beefed up their ailing squad by roping in five experienced players: Maqoko Lulama, Siyabonga Nkosi, Bongolwethu Siyasi, Tiklas Thutlwa, and goalkeeper Rotshidzwa Muleka. Thutlwa and Siyasi are likely to be in the team’s starting lineup against Hungry Lions on Saturday.

Thultwa’s combination with Rudzani Thobo in VFC’s striking force is likely to cause a bit of panic among the Hungry Lions’ defenders. Should they fail to collect the full points at stake against Hungry Lions, their chances to escape the relegation axe at the end of the season will be slim.

The other Thohoyandou-based side, Black Leopards, will enjoy the home-ground advantage when they host Platinum City Rovers at the Thohoyandou Stadium. Baroka FC will entertain Pretoria Callies at the Global Stadium in Lebowakgomo. The other weekend fixtures are NB La Masia vs JDR Stars, University of Pretoria Vs Upington City, Milford FV vs Maritzburg United, and Orbit College vs Casric Stars.
