Matangari Settlers rejoice after winning Lumveleni tournament

Matangari Settlers are still in joyous mood after being crowned the new champions of the Lumveleni Soccer Tournament at the Ngudza Grounds on Sunday. Settlers defeated Tshikambe FC 3-1 in the final to lift the trophy. They were presented with cash amounting to R14,000, a floating trophy, a soccer ball, and gold medals during the ceremony held at the Lumveleni Restaurant shortly after the game.

Settlers had previously beaten Tshikovha Arsenal 1-0 in their semi-final match, which was played at the same venue earlier that day. Tshikambe FC received R6,000, silver medals, and a soccer ball as runners-up. Tshikambe’s path to the final went through Vondwe United Brothers, whom they narrowly defeated 1-0 in their semi-final match. The third-placed side, Tshikovha Arsenal, received R3,000 during the ceremony. Tshikovha had secured third place by defeating Vondwe United Brothers 1-0 in their losers’ final match, which was also played at the same venue shortly before the final game.

During the ceremony, the tournament director, Mr Teddy Ritshuri, announced plans to stage another tournament over the Easter weekend. He mentioned that more details regarding the tournament would be announced in due course. Thirty-two teams from all over the Vhembe District participated in the tournament, which concluded last Sunday.
