Mpheni Defenders prepare for promotional playoffs

Mpheni Defenders clinched the Stream A championship title in the Limpopo Stream of the ABC Motsepe League after defeating Madridtas FC 1-0 at Tshifudi Stadium in the final matches played on Saturday.

As champions of Stream A, Mpheni Defenders will face off against Tzaneen United FC, the champions of Stream B, in the provincial promotional playoffs. The date for this playoff is yet to be announced. The winner of the provincial promotional playoffs will then represent Limpopo in the national playoffs hosted by the North West Province early next month. Mpheni Defenders previously represented Limpopo in the same event in Pietermaritzburg last year but were eliminated in the semi-final stage. The top two teams in the national playoffs will be promoted to the Motsepe Foundation Championship League.

Head coach of Mpheni Defenders Mr Sydwell Phuravhathu is confident of their chances this time around, drawing on their experience from last year's tournament as a learning opportunity.

While Mpheni Defenders are gearing up for the promotional playoffs, Musina United is preparing for a new journey in the lower division. Musina United's relegation to the Safa Vhembe Hollywoodbets League was confirmed after their 2-3 loss to United Artists FC at Malamulele Stadium last Saturday. Musina United finished at the bottom of Stream A with only eight points, having won just one of their 18 league matches this season.
