Will Stone Breakers spoil the party for Basel FC?

Sport - Date: 28 June 2024

This Saturday will be another busy one for the Safa Vhembe League teams participating in the Champ-of-Champs games. The teams will play their last two group-stage matches at two different venues. Group A teams will play their matches at the Tshifulanani Stadium, while Tshifudi Stadium will host the teams in Group B.

Whether Tshikhwani Stone Breakers will manage to rise to the occasion and spoil the party for Basel remains to be seen. Stone Breakers and Basel will test each other’s strength at the Tshifulanani Stadium.

Following their success in the first two matches played at the same venue last Saturday, Basel FC need at least two points in their last two matches to secure a place in the semi-final round. Basel is leading their group with six points. Should they manage to beat Stone Breakers, Basel’s second game against Musasenda Big Five will be a mere formality. Their second match will be against Musasenda Big Five later in the afternoon.

Thohoyandou Manchester Flying Stars must win both their matches if they are serious about securing a place in the semi-final round. Their remaining two matches are against Musasenda Big Five and Maelula United Brothers. Flying Stars collected only one point in their first two games last Saturday.

Igwe FC and Univen FC will open the day’s programme at the Tshifudi Stadium. Igwe and Univen are in a hot race in their group. Univen is leading the pack with four points, while Igwe is on their heels with three points. Univen’s second match will be against Mashamba Soccer Academy. Like Igwe FC, Soccer Academy has accumulated three points.

Berea FC needs at least three points in their last two matches. They will entertain Tshikovha Arsenal in their opening match and meet Igwe FC shortly after midday. Berea is tied with Univen FC on four points.

The top two teams from each group will secure places in the semi-final round. The semi-final and final round matches will be held at the Thohoyandou Stadium next Saturday, 6 July.
