Sport - Date: 29 August 2024

The time has come for the Soutpansberg’s 38-year-old Paralympian, Sheryl James, to shine at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, which will take place from 28 August to 8 September.

For Sheryl to be included in the South African squad is no small feat. Not only is she a Soutpansberger, but she is also the only athlete from Limpopo to be selected as one of the initial 26 athletes to represent Team South Africa. As for her participation in this year’s Paralympics, she will compete in the T37 100m, 200m, and 400m events. She is one of only three previous Paralympic medallists, having won a bronze medal in the women’s 400m T37 race at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Paralympic Games.

Sheryl’s first event at the Paris Paralympics will be the 200m heats on 30 August, with the finals for the 200m decided in two sessions. The 400m heats will take place on 2 September, with the final on 3 September. The 100m heats are scheduled for 4 September, with the final on 5 September.
