Entertainment - Date: 22 June 2024

Ray Mukwevho, the grandson of the late Tshivenda music pioneer Christopher Mukwevho, is set to release his new album on 28 June. Christopher Mukwevho, the founder and leader of the internationally acclaimed band The Thrilling Artists, left a significant musical legacy that Ray has carried forward.

Ray, hailing from Tshitomboni village, learned to play various musical instruments from his grandfather at a young age. His early exposure to music saw him join The Thrilling Artists as bassist at the tender age of 14. His exceptional skills have since earned him recognition as one of the best bass guitarists in the country.

Reflecting on his early performances, Ray credits his confidence to his grandfather's unwavering support. “Because of my grandfather, who always had my back, I never felt threatened by the crowd when I performed,” he said.

Beyond performing, Ray is also a qualified sound engineer. He has been recording and producing his albums with his cousin, Mulalo Mukwevho, a notable reggae artist himself. His discography includes "Zwi Khou Ri Balela," "Vhutshilo," and his upcoming release "Vho Bala."

When asked to choose his best album, Ray responded, “I don’t play music for competition, but for the love of it. That is why I can’t single out one album or song as the best. Music is in our genes.”

Ray Mukwevho promises that his latest album will captivate reggae music fans, highlighting his continued dedication to the genre and his family's musical heritage.
