BMA monitoring travellers after cholera cases

The Limpopo Department of Health said they were working closely with the Border Management Authority (BMA), an entity that, among others, has the mandate to monitor the movement of goods and services through the borders of South Africa. This comes after the department released a statement on Monday, 15 January, confirming two cases of cholera in the province.

Hundreds of people from all corners of Limpopo Province braved the rainy weather on Saturday, 16 December, when they converged at the Thohoyandou Stadium to celebrate Reconciliation Day. President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the crowd, joined by the MEC for the Treasury in Limpopo, Seaparo Sekoati (representing Premier Chupu Mathabatha), the Minister for Sport, Art and Culture Zizi Kodwa, other MECs, and senior traditional leaders. Traditional dance groups entertained the guests.

For the Zoutpansberger’s 15th photo treasure hunt, we decided to cast the net a little wider over the region’s rich cultural heritage. The correct answer to the photo clue given was that of Louis Trichardt’s oldest Muslim mosque, the Louis Trichardt Town Masjid in Kruger Street. The mosque has its origins with the first Muslim families who moved into the Zoutpansberg in the late 1800s, around the same time as the establishment of the town of Louis Trichardt in 1899.
