Tough road ahead for Leopards in ABSA KO

Sport - Date: 04 March 2005

THOHOYANDOU – While Dynamos Football Club will be playing their Absa Cup Top 16 match against a First Division team, it will be a different situation for Black Leopards Football Club. The Thohoyandou outfit will meet Orlando Pirates in the next stage of the competition.

The draw for the competition was made at the Carlton Hotel in Johannesburg on Monday. Leopards lost two of their recent matches against the “Buccaneers”. They were beaten 2-3 on their own home soil in their first-round league match. Lidoda duvha were again beaten 0-1 at the Rand Stadium last month.

According to the head coach of Leopards, Mr Shakes Mashaba, their defeats against Pirates are part of the team’s bad history. Although the date and venue for the match are still to be announced, it will be an away fixture for Black Leopards, who narrowly beat Young City Stars 3-2 last Saturday.

Manning Rangers will have the home-ground advantage in their last 16 fixture as they will host Moroka Swallows Football Club. Supersport United will have an easy walk to the next round as they will play against a Vodacom Promotional League team, Tornado Football Club.

The other team that has been matched against a Vodacom Promotional League side is Santos Football Club. They will host Cemforce Football Cub. Peoples Bank Spurs will have a date with Bush Bucks Football Club at the latter’s home ground. Mamelodi Sundowns will battle it out against Jomo Cosmos Football Club. Apart from the fact that they will be playing a team from the Mvela Golden League, Dynamos will be playing in front of their home crowd. They will meet Dangerous Darkies in their fight for a place in the quarter final stage of the competition. Kaizer Chiefs will host Wits University.
