NFD rookies to conduct series of trials

Sport - Date: 01 July 2016

Following their promotion to the National First Division (NFD), Magezi FC will be conducting trials as one of their many ways to strengthen their current squad.

According to the team’s assistant coach, Mr Joel Mongalo, the trials will be conducted at the Polokwane Noordelike Stadium from Sunday (3 July) to next Tuesday (5th). The trials will continue on Monday and Tuesday (11 and 12 July). Players who will not be able to avail themselves on the first two dates will be given the last chance on 14 and 15 July.

According to Mongalo, the trials will start at 09:00 each day. Only players whose ages range from 16 to 25 will be tried. He stated that they decided to start with the preparation for the new season two months in advance, so that they don’t go to the NFD to become the league’s laughing stock. "We are going there to compete for promotion to the PSL, but not just to add the number of teams in the NFD," he said.

Mongalo, whose contract with Magezi was extended by a further one year, following the team’s promotion to the NFD two weeks ago, said that they were seriously searching for two midfielders, one left winger, one right winger and a sharpshooter in order to beef up their current squad.

Magezi were crowned the overall ABC Motsepe national champions during the play-offs that were staged in Bloemfontein two weeks ago. The Polokwane-based Magezi made history by winning all the matches they played in the play-offs.
