The Musina municipal tennis team taught their opponents free lessons when they won the Inter-Municipal Sports of South Africa (IMSSA) tournament that was recently held in Phalaborwa.

The games are part of a municipal wellness initiative that encourages teamwork, the building of relationships and keeping municipal workers fit and healthy. The tournament was attended by 22 municipal teams from Limpopo and Mpumalanga and they participated in different sporting codes.

This annual regional tournament paves the way for an “international” tournament, known as the Southern Africa Inter-Municipal Sports Association (SAIMSA) games, which takes place in September every year. This year’s edition of SAIMSA will be held in Mpumalanga in September. Several municipalities of the SADC region will compete against South African municipalities.

The municipal spokesperson, Mr Wilson Dzebu, applauded the tennis team. He added that the municipality would continue to give support to the players of different sporting codes, “because we know that a healthy body breeds a healthy mind.”

Mr Collen Netshivhulana, who manages the tennis team, said he was extremely happy about the team’s achievement. “For the first time in the history of the IMSSA games, a Musina tennis team managed to take the first position and win silverware. I’m excited that our hard work and endless training have indeed paid off.”
