Vhembe-based school team Tshikota Secondary are hoping to bring back home the trophy from the richest school soccer tournament in the country, the Kay Motsepe Cup.

The team are currently participating in the national final of the Kay Motsepe Cup, which started on Tuesday (2^nd) at the Tshwane University of Technology. The final will be played on Saturday. The winners and runners-up of the various provincial rounds participate in the finals. The winner will go home with a cool R1 million rand.

The coach of Tshikota High, Mr Justice Matloga, explained that they were going to play against the winners from the other eight provinces. “We are taking a team that is physically strong and tough,” said Matloga.

He expressed his joy with the school’s performances this year. He added that their preparations were well underway “and my boys are looking forward to this challenge. The players are young and inexperienced but have been playing for a few years now, so they know each other well. I can see them getting more and more confident as the days progress”.

Matloga said the tournament had become one of the most important events on the sports calendar. “We expect tough matches and want to maintain our winning momentum. We want to make history by being the first Limpopo team to win the national championship,” he said.
