After playing for five matches without a head coach, Black Leopards have finally found the man who will have the final word in the technical department. The former Free State Stars coach, Mr Sunday Chidzambga, is now the head coach for Lidoda Duvha.

Although he tied the knot with the club three weeks ago, Chidzambga could not sit on the team’s technical bench for two weeks, because of the delay in the processing of his work permit.

The Zimbabwean-born Chidzambga tasted the heat of coaching the team for the first time, when he sat on their technical bench at the Tshifulanani Stadium last Saturday. His availability on the bench was not in vain, as Leopards had for the first time in history beaten Dynamos convincingly, when they crushed them 3-0.

Chidzambga played football from his teens and turned professional in 1970. At that stage he was playing for Metal Box FC in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The 58-year-old Chidzambga played for several professional teams in Zimbabwe, including Chibuku FC, Dynamos and Caps United between 1970 and 1983. He retired in 1983, after he had broken his right leg.

The year 1984 saw him join Dynamos of Zimbabwe as head coach. He stayed there until he was called to assist the Zimbabwean national team in 1990. He then moved from the national team to Dynamos several times between 1997 and April this year.

He came to South Africa in May this year where he joined the Absa Premiership side, Free State Stars, as the head coach. He resigned from Free State Stars two months ago and went back to Zimbabwe.

He crossed the Beit Bridge border post to South Africa four weeks ago after a call from the chairperson of Black Leopards, Mr David Thidiela. AlthoughChidzambga entered into a three-year contract with the club, he stated that his short-term goal is to promote Black Leopards to the elite division, come the end of the season.
