Following their boardroom victory last week, Black Leopards will play Vasco da Gama FC in the platinum play-offs in two weeks´ time.
Vasco finished their Absa Premiership League programme in the 15th position.
The draws for the platinum play-offs were conducted at the league offices on Monday. These will be played in a two-leg format. Black Leopards won the first home-ground advantage. Their first-leg match against Vasco da Gama will be played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday, June 8.
A look at the history of the two teams shows that Leopards and Vasco da Gama have unfinished business as the Capetonians denied Black Leopards promotion to the Absa Premiership Division last season, when they beat them 3-2 on aggregate.
Although Lidoda Duvha beat Vasco da Gama 3-2 in their quarterfinal match of the Nedbank Cup at the Peter Mokaba Stadium three weeks ago, the team’s general manager, Mr Sam Khaphathe, feels that they had not done enough to hurt Da Gama. “We want them to feel the very same pain we felt when they denied us promotion last season,” said Khaphathe.
Their second-leg match will be played at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday, June 11. The winner in the two-legged fixture will meet the winner between Thanda Royal Zulu and Bay United.
Bay United failed to make the grade last Sunday when they lost 5-4 to Jomo Cosmos in their stream champions’ promotional play-offs. Cosmos have secured a place in the Absa Premiership division next season, following their victory over Bay United.
