Although they still have three matches to play before the end of the Hollywoodbets Super League season, Maindis Ladies have already started with their preparations for a new life in the lower league.
A quick glance at the log standings shows that only a miracle can save the Bungeni side from the relegation axe. Maindis are currently lying at the foot of the log with eight points. They have played 27 matches to date. Even if they manage to win all their remaining matches, Maindis will still face the chop at the end of the season.
The team lying in the second-last position on the log, Coal City Wizards, has 13 points while Thunderbirds Ladies, who are perched in the 14th spot, have deposited 20 points into their league account to date. The last two teams on the log standings will be relegated to the lower division at the end of the season.
The fight for survival is now between Coal City Wizards and Thunderbirds Ladies. City Wizards stand a good chance of moving out of the relegation zone since they have two matches in hand.
The chairman of Maindis Ladies, Mr Falaza Mdaka, said that he had done everything to save the team’s franchise, but that was not to be. He said that he found accepting that his team would be campaigning in the Sasol Women’s League next season difficult.
Maindis’ last three fixtures will be against Coal City Wizards (away), University of Pretoria (home) and TUT Football Club. The race for the league championship is between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and UWC. UWC are leaking the pack with 63 points, while Sundowns are three points behind.
