Marude Secondary wins the trophy

Marude Secondary School was crowned the champion of the Ifani Soccer Tournament at the Thohoyandou Technical High School Grounds last Saturday. Marude finished the tournament on top of the log with four points.

They collected three significant points in their opening match against Thohoyandou Secondary, whom they had beaten 2-0. Marude then shared the spoils with Thohoyandou Technical in their second match. The score was 1-1 when the referee blew the final whistle.

The team members were presented with a soccer kit, floating trophy, R1,100, gold medals and three soccer balls during a ceremony at the grounds later that afternoon. Thohoyandou Technical, who finished in the second position, took home a soccer kit, silver medals, certificates, R600 and three soccer balls.

Mr Eric Murudi of Marude Secondary was the recipient for the Best Coach Award. The other individual awards winners are: Londani Tshilongani (player of the tournament), Tsepiso Malatjie (top goal scorer), Ompha Nengwekhulu (best goalkeeper) and Paul Makaula (best referee).

New leaders were elected during the association’s elective congress, held at the Thohoyandou Indoor Sports Centre last Saturday. The association was placed under administration in December last year, following several months of internal leadership disputes.
