Sport - Date: 27 October 2023

The quarter-final, semi-final and final matches of the Vhuthu Mobile Fridge Soccer Tournament will be played at the Gondeni Stadium this weekend. The quarter-final matches will be played on Saturday, while the semis and final are scheduled for Sunday.

The opening quarter-final match will be between Tshianzwane Real Citizens and Malamangwa Scorching Winter at 09:00. Classic XI Sports Academy will take on Sterkstroom Real Chiefs at 11:00. Mighty Super Power will rub shoulders with Tshamutilikwa Fire Boys in the match scheduled to start at 13:00. The day’s programme will be wrapped up by the match between FC Basel and Mukoma All Stars.

Basel were crowned the NR Makhadi Tournament champions at the same venue three weeks ago. Basel and All Stars are the favourites to lift the trophy.

Basel had beaten Muraga Hazard Hotspurs 4-0 at the same venue three weeks ago to secure a place in the quarter-final round. Mukoma All Stars’ way to the quarter-final went via Mbahe Freedom Rebels, whom they beat 2-0. Emmanuel Neswiswi scored a brace in that game.

The toss for the semi-final matches will be made at the stadium shortly after the last quarter-final. The champions will take home a whopping R5,000 and a floating trophy. The second-placed side will receive R2,500. The third- and fourth-placed teams will receive R1,500 and R1,000 respectively.
