Sport - Date: 19 July 2024

Following the success of the opening matches played at the Matatshe Materetere Grounds this past weekend, teams affiliated with the Apollo Bottle Store Soccer Tournament will play their quarter-final matches at the same venue on Sunday.

Ngudza Young Vultures and Malavuwe Great Movers will be the first to enter the field at 09:00. Domboni FC and Sambandou United Professionals will clash in the second match. United Professionals are battling to win silverware after parting ways with their former head coach, Mr. Mashudu “Dunga” Nkhumeleni.

Sparks are expected to fly when Tshamutilikwa Fire Boys test their strength against Tshishivhe Tiger Boys. Fire Boys were recently booted out of the Safa Vhembe Hollywoodbets Champ of Champs games by Thohoyandou Manchester Flying Stars.

The day’s programme will be wrapped up with the match between Makhuvha Up the Ants and Napoli FC. Napoli were recently crowned champions of the Lumveleni Restaurant Soccer Tournament, narrowly beating their neighbours, Ngwenani Young Chiefs, 1-0 in the final to lift the trophy.

According to the tournament director, Mr. Teddy Ritshuri, the champions will receive a cash prize of R10,000. The team finishing in second place will receive R5,000. The third- and fourth-placed teams will take home R3,000 and R1,000 respectively. The semi-final and final matches will be played at the same venue on Saturday, 3 August.
